the vet: take two

Sharav and I went to the vet this evening. We decided to walk because the weather was pleasant and because I didn’t feel like trying to hail a cab with him.

The last time we went to the vet, Sharav was sick and he was just tested, diagnosed and treated, so this visit counted as our official first visit. He confirmed that Sharav is between four and five months old (I’m dating his birth at 8 January 2007 because his prior name was Elvis). He also said that Sharav is not a purebred german shepherd, which slightly contradicts what his colleague the other vet said last time, which is that Sharav might be purebred.

For those who ask why I care: I don’t care in itself, but I prefer for him to be a mix because they are smarter and healthier, and also if he’s a mix he perhaps won’t grow to full german shepherd size, and also there’s a chance if he’s a mix that his ears will stay floppy.

Anyway, the vet gave us some more instructions on grooming (specifically shampooing) and health care (anti-worm pills), weighed Sharav (16.25 kilos) and sent us on our way. I was a little bit disappointed that Sharav didn’t get his first vaccination tonight, because he’s already been with me for four weeks and he really needs to get the shots so he can start going out and playing with other dogs, but the vet said to come back in ten days and he’d get his first shot, followed by the second two weeks later. After the second he will be fine to be around other dogs. Then he’ll get a third vaccination and then another shot for rabies and he’ll be all set.
