I don’t have a television and don’t listen to the radio, which means I need to rely on the internet for almost all of my news (I can acquire the rest by personal observation), including weather reports. In the Jerusalem summer, that’s not difficult at all: hot, dry, cool at night. But in the winter, which is like a very long American spring, the weather always changes several times a day, so I need to rely on online weather forecasting to know, among other things, what clothes I need to wear to work. Unfortunately, online weather forecasting has apparently not acquired any of the “Doppler 75 XTRA 10000″ type equipment that all the American local news broadcasts seem to have hooked up on their roofs. Most notably, I discovered immediately after moving here that Wunderground, my old American standby, sucks. And I’ve now figured out why: though they don’t have any weather stations anywhere near Jerusalem, let alone even a simple old Doppler XT, that doesn’t stop them from predicting Jerusalem’s weather as if they do.
Since ditching Wunderground, I’ve been checking Weather.com and CNN.com/weather on and off, while relying primarily on my computer’s preinstalled Accuweather widget. The bad news: Weather.com never agrees with CNN, and the two of them never agree with Accuweather; none of the three is consistently accurate. This is a very frustrating situation. Does anyone have any suggestions?
