New Gmail feature?

I didn’t see this Gmail feature announced anywhere, so when it came up today in my inbox, I was very pleasantly surprised!

A while back, I bought something from Macy’s online. I had no desire to receive any further communication from Macy’s, but they started sending me crass commercial advertisements via email anyway. My normal policy when this happens is that I will never go through an unsubscribe process for an email list to which I’ve not voluntarily subscribed; instead I just mark the spam for what it is and let the offending companies sort it out.

Today I marked an email from Macy’s as spam and Gmail offered to try unsubscribing me also:

Gmail's offer to unsubscribe me from the Macy's spam list

Gmail's offer to unsubscribe me from Macy's spam list

That is pretty helpful! Thanks Gmail.

To bad about the “split infinitive.” Gmail used to ask residents of Israel to help build the Gmail Hebrew structure by volunteering to translate.

Gmail should ask for help with its English, too.

Indeed, William Zinsser would not approve.

But, you still can’t stop comment spam like this:
